Exceptional Japanese Zen tea ceremony scroll painting with enso, early-mid 20th century.  The enso is a Zen symbol representing the circle of enlightenment, a moment when the mind is free to simply let the body/spirit create. Zen Buddhists believe that the character is revealed when a person paints an enso and that only a person who is whole, both mentally and spiritually, can draw a true one.  Many artists and priests practice drawing an enso daily as a spiritual exercise. Exceptional calligraphy, mineral ink on paper, with signature/seal, Koten, for Kitagawara Koten of the Huayan sect. Comes with kiri wood tomobako storage box. Very good condition.  Dimensions:  56 x 28.5.
