Engaging Japanese scroll painting of towering waterfall with a pair of fish, Edo period, 18th century.  Signed and sealed by noted artist Tani Buncho (1763-1840), often referred to as one of three major painters of the Tokugawa era, with with Maruyama Okyo (1733-1795) and Kano Tanyu (1602-1674).  Buncho’s specialty was the painting of actual locations with poetry-inspiring scenery. Here we see a combination of techniques with a stylized approach to the waterfall, yet remarkable detail in the fish.  Mineral ink on paper.  Good condition with some creasing.  Dimensions:  70.5" x 19".
