Beautiful Japanese lithograph by Toko Shinoda, "An Ode," late 20th-century, from an edition of 50.  Appealing abstraction of dark strokes constructed in a lovely overall composition exhibiting exquisite grace and balance.  Born in Manchuria, in 1913 and moving to Tokyo in 1914, the world-renowned Shinoda had her first exhibition in Tokyo in 1940.  Prior to 1940 Shinoda had been schooled in traditional calligraphy.  Her fine abstract work began in 1947, and by the 1950’s her works had been exhibited at the MOMA and other museums and galleries in New York, Boston, Paris, Washington and Brussels.  Shinoda began producing lithographs in 1960, and worldwide exhibits of her abstract works continued.  As a testimony to her wide popularity, Time Magazine published an article about the artist in 1983.  A desirable collector’s item from an artist whose work continues to increase in depth and value.
