Fabulous Japanese Imari plum flower plate, Edo to Meiji period, 19th century. Enchanting plum flower shape with blue and white polychrome décor.  Beautiful portrayal of bird by a shochikubai. Shochikubai is a wreath of plum, pine and bamboo.  For years, these trees have been grown together in Japan and then incorporated into flower arrangements and used for decorations for certain holidays and weddings. As pine and bamboo are evergreen and growing, and the plum is first to blossom in the spring, this traditional trio has come to represent strength, vitality, hope, and good fortune.  Very good condition with one small rim chip. Dimensions: 2.75” high.
