Stunning Japanese porcelain standing Buddhist deity Kannon, Meiji period, c. 1868-1912.  Kannon, known as the god/dess of mercy and compassion, is the Bodhisattva who can hear the voices and concerns of the world, and, in order to provide immediate relief, can change into many different forms to save people freely at will according to their time and place.  Marvelously depicted here holding a water bottle, with unusual onlays of cloisonne and mother-of-pearl.  Small chip on bottle and bottom rim, otherwise very good condition.   Height:  15.25”.
