Enchanting Japanese mythical Kintaro folk doll, Meiji period, c. 1868-1912.  Traditionally made for display on Boy's day, celebrated annually in Japan on May 5. Folk characterization of the rosy-cheeked Golden Boy of Japanese myth. Kintaro eventually became retainer to the famous samurai warrior Yorimitsu Minamoto. Charming folk costume of colorful cotton. Dramatic gofun face shows great expression and depth, animated pose.  Very good condition. Dimensions: 10.5" high; 7" wide.
