Delightful 19th-century Japanese samurai kerai or retainer doll, Edo period, c. 1800-1830. Traditionally made for display on Boys' Day, celebrated annually in Japan on May 5. Wonderfully animated features and pose. Fine costume and detail includes gofun and face, hands and feet. Very good condition with hairline on top of head. Dimensions: 9" high, 6" wide.
