Fine 19th-century Japanese samurai kerai or retainer doll, Edo period, c. 1800-1830. Traditionally made for display on Boys' Day, celebrated annually in Japan on May 5. Wonderfully crafted features and pose. Fine costume and detail includes gofun and face, hands and feet and cloth banner. Very good condition with hairline under right eye. Dimensions: 9" high, 6" wide.
