Fantastic Japanese red lacquer, kirin makie suzuri-bako writing box, Meiji period, c.1868-1912. Unusual and elegant round shape. Stunning detail in kirin, mythological winged creature motif delicately painted on lid.  Inside are inkstone and pewter suiteki (water dropper). Rare old brushes and accessories included.  Poem inscribed in underside of lid.  Comes with original tomobako kiri wood storage box.  Very good condition. Dimensions: 9” x 2”.
