Magnificent Meiji period Japanese makie lacquer lidded container, exhibited and catalogued by the Tokyo National Museum in the 2004 -2005 exhibition entitled “Arts of East and West from World Expositions.”  Piece dated c. 1868-1912.  Exquisitely rendered makie lacquerwork in intricate patterns and rich design.  Enchanting carved ivory figure of Shojo also rendered in makie, depicted with great character and imagination.  Amazing skill in workmanship shown.  An absolutely fabulous addition to the Asian arts collection.  An extraordinary conversation piece for display or for storing valued treasures.  Very good condition. Dimensions:  7.25” high, 3.5” diameter.
