Dynamic Japanese kimekomi gosho doll, Taisho period (1912-1926).  Momotaro, also called Peach Boy, one of the most famous fairy-tale heroes in Japan. Wonderful rendering with great natural pose and subtle face.  Features wildly dramatic handpainted costuming tucked and glued into grooves on a body made of compacted paulownia wood sawdust. Traditional oversized head, chubby body and brilliant white skin, created by the application of many layers of polished gofun.  Very good condition.  Dimensions:  16” x 13” (doll); 24” x 11” x 17”.
