Dazzling Japanese costume doll, bijin (beautiful woman), Taisho period, c. 1912-1926. This type of doll has been very popular since the Edo period, and is typically crafted for the Girls' Day Festival held annually in Japan on March 3. Most depict characters from Noh or Kabuki drama. Delightful, expressive gofun face and hands. Exceptional hand-painted silk kimono with maple leaf motif. Accessories include flowering branch and hair ornament. A fabulous find for the collector! Very good condition. Height: 14”.
