Gray brown jade Buddha hand citron, Quing dynasty, 18th – 19th century. The Buddha hand citron (citrus medica) is not much good to eat unless it’s candied, but it does have medicinal uses and its essential shape, which gives rise to its name, makes it an appropriate fruit for offering on the altar table. With its baroque shape and implication of fortune and blessing, this carving is most representative of the artistic spirit of the early Quing period. Very good condition. Dimensions: 5.75” high, 3” wide, 2.25” deep.
