Remarkable set of five Japanese lacquer soup bowls (suimono-wan), Taisho period, c. 1912-1926. Rich, glossy black exterior with exquisite, finely detailed motif of pine cones and needles in gold maki-e inside. Superbly rendered chinkin-bori (gold inlay) technique achieved after a pattern has been incised into the lacquer surface with a fine chisel and gold dust or leaf pressed into them. Very good condition. Dimensions: 3.5” (6 cm) high, 5.25” (13.5 cm) diameter.
