Eye-catching Japanese ceramic and maki-e lacquer tea bowl by third-generation master lacquer artist Shunsai Maehata, contemporary. Like his father, Gaho Maehata, Shunsai has received the official title of Master of Traditional Arts, a recognition that precedes that of Living National Treasure. One of Japan's most acclaimed young lacquer artists whose pieces grace several museums in the US, Shunsai Maehata here has rendered a striking motif featuring abandoned backpack amid bamboo and trailing vines in abundant gold maki-e on rich, smooth and textured red ground and glossy black interior. Beautifully conceived and skillfully crafted. Comes with kiri wood tomobako storage box. Very good condition. Dimensions: 3.5” x 4.25”.
