Magnificent Japanese Tokoname ware ceramic pot or jar, late Edo period, c. 1868-1912.  The Tokoname kiln originally produced ware for religious purposes.  This example would traditionally have been used for storing Buddhist sutras.  Bronze-colored glaze, powerful form, rough, rustic impression. Very good condition.  Dimensions:  23” x 20” (58.5 x 51 cm).
