Captivating Japanese Kimekomi Gosho doll, Taisho period (1912-1926).   Youthful representation of the rosy-cheeked Golden Boy of Japanese myth, Kintaro, who eventually became retainer to the famous samurai warrior Yorimitsu Minamoto. Finely handpainted, delightful expression and detail.  Striking brocade costume in traditional Kimekomi style with clothing tucked and glued into grooves on the body, which is made of compacted paulownia wood sawdust. Gosho head with brilliant white skin, created by the application of many layers of polished gofun. Very good condition.  Dimensions:  7” high, 7” wide.

Fine signed and handpainted Japanese Courtesan Orian kimekomi doll, Taisho period, c. 1912-1926.  Standing figure is colorfully robed in finely handpainted kimono.  The origin of this type of doll dates to the early 18th century.  Clothing tucked and glued into grooves on the body, which is made of compacted paulownia wood sawdust in the traditional kimekomi form.  Doll displayed on wooden platform and accompanied by the original signed box.  Very good condition.  Dimensions: 5" wide, 4.5" tall.
