Marvelous two-panel Japanese screen painting or byobu depicting Karako, children at play, late Edo period, c. 1800-1868.  Whimsical rendering exhibits masterful and evocative technique and composition.  Karako refers to Chinese children, who infuse a scene with their playful energy.  Vibrant color and movement.  Considerable use of gold dust in background. Signed and sealed by artist.  Wonderful, manageable size.  Very good condition. Dimensions:  53” high, 52” wide, fully extended.
