Lovely Japanese tsugaru lacquer box for sweets or tea storage, early 20th century. Traditional smooth, round form.  Exceptional technique accomplished by application of various colors in drips and patches and the introduction of tiny pieces of mother-of-pearl. The layers pile up, producing a marbled strata that is then sanded smooth, revealing a stunning mosaic. Dimensions:  4” high x 12” diameter.
