Japanese Tea Ceremony Items

The Japanese tea ceremony (cha-no-yu, chado or sado) is a formal practice that is today celebrated by Japanese and Westerners alike. It was originally influenced by Zen Buddhism and involves the ceremonial preparing and serving of powdered green tea or matcha to guests in a peaceful setting.

Many serving utensils are required, such as chawan (tea bowl), mizusashi (water container), chaire (tea jar), chasen (whisk), chashaku (ladle) and natsume (tea caddy). In addition, accessories for both inside and outside the tea room are numerous, including scrolls, ikebana baskets and vases, hibachi, and stone lanterns and basins.
