Detailed carving with inlaid gold. Heavy iron with rich, dark patina and desirable, smooth wear overall, a result of age and use. Appealing oval shape. Very good condition. Diameter: 2.75” (6 cm).

Stunning Japanese sword tanto with matching gold waki-goto kiri mon mounts. The blade is an o-tanto in the Naga-Maki Noa Oshi style (cut-down pole arm) crafted in the Nambokucho Period (13th century). The blade has no visible flaws and is in old polish. A ken sword is on one side. It has been polished down considerably but is still visible. The tang is cut down. Exquisite, highly refined, late Edo period (c. 1800-1868) case with gold kiri mon and pair of long-tailed mythical minogame turtle menuki. Very good condition. Dimensions: 15” blade, 21.5” overall.
