Wonderful Japanese stone jizo or guardian spirit for garden, courtyard or interior display, Meiji period, c. 1868-1912. Rustic, textured granite. Figure appears to be emerging from stone. Naturally worn and weathered. Originally thought to guard souls in the otherworld. Very good condition with some loss consistent with age and use. Dimensions: 16" x 6" x 7".
