Exceptional Japanese scroll painting featuring a folktale of Sima Guang, Chinese historian, scholar and high chancellor of the Song dynasty, Meiji period, c. 1868-1912. Delightful rendering depicts the rescue of a drowning child from a large ceramic container – Sima Guang Da Po Gang.  Wonderfully detailed in colored ink.  Charming, individualized characterizations drawn with great skill and imagination.  Very good condition. Dimensions:  54” x 16.5”.
