Remarkable, old Japanese one-panel screen or byobu, late Edo period, c. 1800-1868.  From a Buddhist monastery in Japan.  n exceptional rending of lotus flowers.  Extensive use of gold and subtle, colored pigment show lotus leaves (Buddhist symbol of purity) rising from the water.  Silver clouds line the top.  Black lacquer frame.  Exceptional composition exuding grace and tranquility. Good condition with some distress commensurate with age and use.  Dimensions:  68” x 38”.
