A mythical creature known for mischief, the whimsical tanuki was adopted as a symbol of aristocratic excess during the Edo period. Often displayed in front of sake houses to hint at the entertainment offered therein. Wonderful, rustic, handformed figure showing exceptional, imaginative crafting. Very good condition.
