Delightful pair of Japanese emperor and empress dolls or kokin-bina, Meiji period, c. 1868-1912.  Wonderful representation of the imperial couple. Fine silk, hand-embroidered brocade costumes, and beautifully crafted faces with charming, animated expressions. Traditionally made for display on Girls Day, celebrated annually in Japan. Features include gofun faces and hands, fabulous crown, sword, hat, fan and display stands.  Very good condition. Dimensions:  8” wide, 12” high (each).
