Stunning Japanese merchant tansu, Meiji period, c. 1868-1912. Fashioned wholly of cypress and warm, lightweight kiri (paulownia). Dramatic metalwork featuring abundant circular lockplates and mokko-style drawer pulls. Bold decorative bracketing enhances the piece’s overall charm. Plenty of drawers and two cabinets offer generous storage space. A functional, eye-catching piece exhibiting self-assured Japanese style and composition. Very good condition. Dimensions: 28.5" height, 26.5" width, 13" depth
