Stunning Japanese maki-e lacquer natsume for tea storage by third-generation master lacquer artist Shunsai Maehata, contemporary.  Like his father, Gaho Maehata, Shunsai has received the official title of Master of Traditional Arts, a recognition that precedes that of Living National Treasure.  One of Japan's most acclaimed lacquer artists whose pieces grace several museums in the US, Shunsai Maehata here has rendered an remarkable motif of crosshatch bamboo with layers of scattered leaves rendered in lush gold maki-e.  Beautifully conceived and skillfully crafted.  Comes with kiri wood tomobako storage box.  Very good condition.  Dimensions:  3” x 2.75”.
