Inspired Japanese maki-e lacquer kogo or incense storage box, late-Edo-Meiji period, c. 18th-19th century. Meticulously rendered floral and patterned motif of curtain opening on Tale of Manogatari. Enchanting slender, square shape with abundant gold and color skillfully applied. Exceptionally well-conceived and detailed. Traditionally for tea ceremony use. Very good condition. Dimensions: 3.25” x 3” x .5”.
