Remarkable Japanese black lacquer box, “Feather” by renowned artist Yuji Okada, contemporary.  Exquisite form with lovely feather motif.  The artist, whose work can be found in museums worldwide, uses a dry lacquer technique dating to the Nara period (7th-8th century).  His approach is meticulous, with layer upon layer of lacquer applied over time, resulting in exquisite pieces of art that are both sturdy and lightweight and have the added attraction of being almost impervious to climactic change.
