Wonderful Japanese hina doll or ningyo representing the left minister, Sadaijin, c. 1868-1912. An old and respected samurai and protector of the Imperial Court, he is dressed in the costume of the Imperial Guards of the Heian period, with bow and arrow in hand as well as on his back, and seated on handpainted base. From Kyoto, indicating highest level of quality and craftsmanship. Very good condition. Dimensions: 6” wide, 10.5” high.
