Enchanting Japanese Hina doll representing the mythical hero Kintaro doll astride his white steed, Taisho period, c. 1912-1926. Traditionally made for display on Boy's day, celebrated annually in Japan on May 5. Crafted in Kyoto, indicating and exceptional level of quality and artisanship. Detailed characterization of the rosy-cheeked Golden Boy of Japanese myth, Kintaro eventually became retainer to the famous samurai warrior Yorimitsu Minamoto. Dramatic gofun face shows expression and depth. Very good condition. Dimensions: 11.5” wide, 15” high.
