Whimsical Japanese Kaga gosho doll, Taisho period (1912-1926). Shown performing the Lion Dance (Sakamoto no Shishimai) at New Year, thought to keep the devil away.  Traditional oversized head, chubby body and brilliant white skin, created by the application of many layers of polished gofun. Very good condition.  Comes with signed kiri wood storage box. Dimensions:   4” wide, 4” high.
