Eye-catching Japanese ceramic and maki-e lacquer tea bowl by third-generation master lacquer artist Shunsai Maehata, contemporary.  Like his father, Gaho Maehata, Shunsai has received the official title of Master of Traditional Arts, a recognition that precedes that of Living National Treasure.  One of Japan's most acclaimed young lacquer artists whose pieces grace several museums in the US, Shunsai Maehata here has rendered a singular motif featuring abandoned items used in the practice of Buddhism in gold maki-e on rich, glossy red ground.  Beautifully conceived and skillfully crafted.  Comes with kiri wood tomobako storage box.  Very good condition.   .  Dimensions:  3” x 4.75”.
