Exceptional, rare Bunraku samurai’s wife head, Meiji period, c. 1868-1912.  Fabulous rendering, signed by artist, with great detail and expression. Moveable eyes. Abundant human hair.  Tortoise shell hair pin and coral hair ornament.  Handcrafted in Kyoto, indicating the highest quality and artisanship.  Carved with with layer upon layer of brilliant white gofun.  Very good condition.  Dimensions:  8” wide, 13.5” high.
