Japanese bronze koro or incense burner, Meiji period, c. 1868-1912.  Lovely metal craftsmanship in rendering featuring sparrows and waves. Traditionally used for the burning of dry incense during the tea ceremony and often found in the tokonoma or alcove found in Japanese homes. Very good condition.  Dimensions:  4” x 5.5”.

Marvelous Japanese bronze okinomo koro incense burner, Jurojin, god of longevity, astride recumbent deer, Meiiji period, c. 1868-1912.  Rendered as an old man with heavy beard, he carries a holy scepter and a scroll said to hold the life span of all living beings.  Here he is shown with a gentle deer, as is often the case.  Heavyweight bronze with rich, dark patina.  Highly detailed features, benevolent countenance, extraordinary detail in facial features, flowing beard and robes. A dramatic piece in very good condition.  Dimensions:  13” x 12” x 8”.

Remarkable Japanese bronze foo dog or temple lion koro incense burner, Meiji period, c. 1868-1912.  Ferocious portrayal with dramatic expression and detail as traditionally given to these mythological lion beasts, seen in many variations throughout Asian art.
