Remarkable Japanese Hakata dolls depicting the courtesan Oiran and kamuro (attendant), Taisho period (1912-1926). Original signed by Kazuharu. Spectacular crafting of extremely high quality and meticulous detail. Large and striking, all finely handpainted. Gorgeous, expressive faces and tender pose with geisha using chalk stick on hand and attendant assisting with obi. Fabulous hair arrangement with elaborate ornaments Very good condition. Fine signed and handpainted Japanese samurai hakata doll, Taisho period, c. 1912-1926. Standing samurai is robed in finely handpainted kimono and portrayed holding rope and sword. The hakata doll tradition began in the early 1600s. According to the historical process, the dolls are formed from clay, fired in the kiln and glazed with a plastering whitewash, achieving the brilliant white skin of the hakata doll. Doll displayed on a black lacquer platform and accompanied by the original signed box. Very good condition. Dimensions: 3" wide, 4.5" tall.
