Spectacular Chinese ivory standing Buddhist deity Kannon or Kwan Yin, Ching dynasty, mid-19th century.  Kannon, known as the god/dess of mercy and compassion, is the Bodhisattva who can hear the voices and concerns of the world, and, in order to provide immediate relief, can change into many different forms to save people freely at will according to their time and place.  Rare, large size, superbly carved here with lotus.  Remarkable detail, with fabulous presence and delicate artistry.  Very good condition. Height: 20".
