Old excavation long-neck ceramic vase, Sueki period, c. 7th century AD. Originally used to preserve sake, for burial or festival ceremonies. Customary blue-gray clay, sublime thinly potted form. More advanced than Jomon and Yayoi pottery, Sueki marks a point in Japanese ceramics when the potter’s wheel was first used. Bizen, Shigaraki and Tamba ceramic styles stem from the Sueki tradition. Comes with kiri-wood box. Very good condition with some areas professionally restored in keeping with Japanese traditions. Dimensions: 9.25” high, 6” diameter at widest (21 x 15 cm).
